Our Mission

The faith-based mission of Morningside Ministries is to enhance the dignity and quality of life of older adults, their families, and team members with compassionate care.

Our History

For more than 60 years, Morningside Ministries has provided mission-driven housing and services to older adults in a comfortable, caring community where everyone is welcomed and valued. Morningside was founded by the Southwest Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church, First Presbyterian Church of San Antonio and the Episcopal Diocese of West Texas.

Morningside first opened its doors as Morningside Manor in 1961. The Manor, located on what is now the Morningside at The Meadows campus, was San Antonio’s first private, faith-based residence for older adults.

In the 1970s, Morningside Ministries was gifted with the Chandler Memorial Home, built in 1885 as a private residence on West French Place. On the Chandler grounds, Morningside built an accompanying 120-bed nursing home and a 39-unit apartment building. In 1984, Morningside at The Meadows opened its independent living building on land west of the Manor.

Morningside continued to expand to the picturesque Hill Country city of Boerne, Texas. In 2003, Morningside at Menger Springs began operations, featuring The Menger House for independent senior living, Cibolo House Assisted Living and The Cottages Under The Oaks.

Morningside’s
Three Core Anchors

Morningside Ministries’ vision is to transform how older adults thrive on our campuses and in the greater communities we serve.

People First… Always

In all that we do, the individuals that we serve come first. That means putting their needs first and ourselves second.

Compassionate Action... Now

Don’t pass the buck and never say “It’s not my job.” Be a problem solver: Problem = Solution + Action

Respectful Communication... Everywhere

Respectful, effective communication with those we serve and those we work alongside with leads to happiness and positivity.

The Not-for-Profit Difference
As a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, Morningside Ministries’ focus is mission-driven service to our community rather than return on investment. Morningside wants our residents to live life fully while ensuring they have access to the best of care. Any revenue is reinvested back into Morningside and quality of life of our residents, not to shareholders whose focus is on profit. At Morningside, we have also never asked residents to leave because they have outlived their resources due to circumstances beyond their control. Through generous donations, we have established the Covenant Fund to provide financial assistance to eligible residents in need. Our mission and core anchors guide our culture as a not-for-profit in that individuals come first.

Morningside Ministries is excited to bring the first Green House homes to seniors in San Antonio and to offer the best possible experience for your loved one. The Green House model of care is designed to de-institutionalize nursing home life and create an environment in which individuality, freedom, and choice are top priority, eliminating the plagues of loneliness, helplessness, and boredom.

Morningside Ministries is officially certified in the Eden Alternative Registry, upheld by The Eden Alternative®, a global non-profit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to reshaping conventional care models into person-centered approaches that prioritize the individual. We support choice, dignity, respect, self-determination, and purposeful living for everyone we serve.
In considering residents for admission, Morningside Ministries does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, gender, ethnic background, or disability.
