5 Tips to Enjoy Assisted Living

Assisted living facilities are excellent for independent seniors who may be living alone or far away from family. Assisted living allows you to keep your independence while being in a place where you are supported and helped with things that have become difficult for you such as cooking or housework. When you decide to move out of your home and into an assisted living community, it can be a hard transition. Here are few tips to make sure you get the most out of your assisted living experience.

5 Tips to Enjoy Assisted Living

Socialize

Having a sense of community and belonging is a critical element of remaining mentally healthy as we age. Familiarize yourself with your community’s event calendar. The Manor offers many fun social activities, including table games, adult coloring, bingo, live music, and more. There is definitely an activity for every interest. Get to know your new Morningside neighbors by attending events.

Have Your Shopping List Ready

One major benefit of an assisted living is planned shopping trips. You don’t have to worry about driving or parking. Our facilities have multiple scheduled shopping trips each month. We go to different locations and different days so if you have a conflict such as a doctor’s appointment or are sick; you can still get your shopping done.

Stay Active

Staying active is not only great for your body and mind, but it’s a great way to connect with your community. The Manor offers some form of exercise class almost every day to our residents. Regular activity is known to reduce stress, prolong life and prevent conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, arthritis, and cancer.

Pack Practical, Not Sentimental

We all have trinkets and items that remind us of happy time and make your house feel like home. It’s important to remember to pack with your new space in mind. Definitely make your new place feel like home – the more pictures of loved ones, the better – but if you are downsizing, look for items you can toss, donate or store elsewhere.

Ask Questions

When you choose to move into an assisted living facility, no question should be off-limits. We understand to feel the most comfortable in your new home, you may need more information than you can find online. You may need clarification on what all is included or how to set up transportation to a doctor’s appointment. Whatever the question changes are once you have an answer you will be more comfortable with the move.

The team at Morningside is here to help. Whether you are looking for assisted living solutions, rehabilitation, memory care, or skilled nursing – we can help. Give us a call to determine which option is right for you or your loved one.
